S is for Sobriety. Sobriety according to my sponsor and spiritual advisor, is soundness of mind. That means I have to work on my emotional sobriety one day at a time.

S is for Serenity. It isn't always easy to come by. The Serenity Prayer has worked for me for years. When I first found it, I didn't know what it was. It was completely foreign to me.
Serenity, have it if you can. Your Higher Power will be glad to send some your way if you ask.

S is for Self. Selfishness and Self-Centeredness is the center of my disease. In order to recover, I had to get in touch with my Higher Self and not listen to my Lower Self.

I needed to learn self-care. Even though I had been a care taker, I didn't know how to take care of myself. I had to do what I had done for everyone else over the years and apply it to myself.

S is for Share. Share your experience, strength, and hope with others. It not only helps them, but it helps you too. You can see where you are at in your program. If you listen to yourself, you will know if there is a Step that you need to work and apply to your life. That is why my signature is, "I share because I care."

S is for Social. It is important to make new friends and let go of old friends who we used with, especially if they will jeopardize our sobriety. They often try to talk us into drinking with them, telling you don't have a problem. If you have a problem they may too and they are not willing to do so. Stick with the winners. Those who are trying to stay clean and sober, one day at a time.

S is for Serene. Who would have thought that I would be comfortable in my own skin. It was a miracle to me, when I could turn off the TV, and be by myself. I like to listen to music without the words, it feeds my soul.

I will never forget the day my God sent me a sun beam. I was on the phone talking to a friend and told them, I am taking ownership, I am willing to share, but for me, it is a gift from God.

S is for Sunshine. Put a little bit of that yellow into your life. It can be very healing and it always brightens my day.

On a gray day like we had here today, I like to think, "The sun is shining some where even if it isn't here.

S is for Society. When we get clean and sober, we can become helpful, useful members of society. All we have to do is stay.

S is for So Shall I. When I was in active addiction, I use to say, if you are going to have a drink, so shall I. That is as close to social drinking I ever got. In today, if someone says, "I'm going to a meeting, I say, "So shall I."

S is for Seek

Seek knowledgeable help when troubled and or otherwise. Pick up your phone, call someone, go to a meeting, seek help...it is not a sign of weakness

S is for Solo. This program doesn't work, when we try to go it alone. Me alone with me is bad company. I just heard my mother's voice saying, "Sing so low that I can't hear you." My voice has improved since I quit smoking, but it isn't something you want to hear all by itself. It sounds so much better, when I sing with others. :)

Some totem animals to look at. They all have a message to carry.

S is for Sugar. We need not sugar coat things. We need to be told the plain truth. To use is to die. A drug is a drug. A drug is but a symptom of my disease, the problem is me.

If you want to put sugar on anything, put it on the literature and perhaps you will read it more often. ;) As they say, read the Big Book, don't use it to prop up a window. That is an old timers joke, who props up windows in today when you have air conditioners and sliding doors and panes of glass in our windows.

S is for SIN. I look at it as Soul In Need. Always looking for something outside of myself to make me feel better.

In early recovery SIN stood for Social Insurance Number. I am a somebody, no longer a nobody. I am worthy of recovery. I am not a bad person trying to get good. I am a sick person, trying to heal from my disease, that took me to sinful places on my life's journey.

S is for Serenity. Let go of your fears and walk in faith. Let go and let Go take away your stress and fill you with peace and serenity.

S is for Silent. Spend some time a lone. Silence the internal chatter and sit alone in a safe spot, and be with yourself. When we do this, it is so much easier to hear the Good Orderly Direction from our Higher Power.

S is for Sound. It is important to have a sound foundation on which to build your program on. Solid as a rock they say. We don't want anyone falling through the cracks.

It is important to share and meetings, not to just hear the sound of your own voice, but to look at where your program is at. Sounding out others, because this is a 'we' program.

S is for Should. Quit Shoulding all over the place. Could have, would have, should have, you didn't or you did, let go and let God.

Smile.

S is for Serenity. Be serene if you can. I was told to envision a place from my past that was safe and made me feel good. I went back to the beaver pond from my childhood, that was surrounded by birch trees and tall ever so green grass. Beyond the pond, was a field of wild flowers. I took it for granted back then, I didn't appreciate the beauty of the moment.

S is for Stop. Stop and take an inventory. Stop a momentand think things out instead of act react. Stop and look at where your thinking is at. Does it need to be changed?

When we go to a meeting and share, we can here ourselves and we can see where we are at and we can hear others share and get some Good Orderly Direction.

S is for Show Me. Show me is not an act of trust. Sometimes we have to believe sight unseen. We have to trust the process. As we work the Steps, we will see how we have changed within ourselves.

S is for Sorrow. We get not so good moment in recovery, sadness is part of the grieving process we experience in early recovery. We have lost our best friend, our drug of choice, that stopped working for us. it eas my best friend, and became my worst enemy.

S is for Slow. you will often see me identify myself as a slow recovering alcoholic/addict. i say slow because I had a lot of memories that were buried deeply and it took a while to dig them all out. i can still have new memories in today. i learned from the people when i came in, and i still continue do learn from the new people. it isn't getting any nicer out there. i try to go to a meeting in today with an attitude of a newcomer. i still havelts to learn. When you think you know everything, you know nothing.

S is for Serenity. The only way I could come close was to practice meditation. iI had to empty and quietnmy mind. i had to get me out of the way and let the goodness come in.
