Being There

from: "Working with Others"

"In our belief any scheme of combating alcoholism which proposes to shield the sick man from temptation is doomed to failure. If the alcoholic tries to shield himself he may succeed for a time, but usually winds up with a bigger explosion than ever. We have tried these methods. These attempts to do the impossible have always failed.

"So our rule is not to avoid a place where there is drinking, IF WE HAVE A LEGITIMATE REASON FOR BEING THERE."

Just For Today - The Hoffelds

THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Our drug of choice is but a substance, and inanimate object until such a time as we choose to pick it up. It can not do us harm unless we make the decision to partake of it.

Putting ourselves at risk, be it going to a bar for the excitement, attention, or just stopping going to meetings to stay home and watch a TV special or sporting event, it all gets us away from the Spiritual connection we need to stay sober. This is a spiritual program and we turn our backs on that, we open ourselves up for relapse, long before we actually pick up. Some are fortunate enough to realize the direction they are heading and redirect their recovery, while others have gone on and never made it back.
