There are such things as miracles
But often its been said
That miracles only happen in the fiction you have read.
But I would beg to differ - for I truly do believe
That miracles do happen
If you are willing to receive.

To be open, to be willing, to listen every day
And really HEAR the message that your conscience has to say
For your Higher Power is your conscience
A miracle indeed
A power grater than yourself
Speaking through you, to be freed.

From fear and self=pity, crowding the caverns of your mind
With anger and resentment- two demons locked inside
Distorting your perception and stunting emotional growth
So that pessimism, negativity and self-loathing all subside.

God`s gift of life is precious; a miracle to behold
From each soft sigh of baby`s breath to the wisdom of the old
The sweet perfume of flowers, the blue unclouded sky
Very often go unnoticed, as the world goes flying by.

So, take time to smell the flowers and approach each single day
Appreciate the blessings that God has thrown your way.
But - To see a genuine miracle - Here`s what you must do:
Look into a mirror
For Gods`miracle is YOU.

The Message

Emotions wash over me, like the ocean over the sands
Slowly edging down my cheek, a tiny tear drop falls to land
Upon the line filled pages; from the corner of my mind,
Sad, forgotten memories, that poetry`s message seeks to find.

Lost images and feelings cascade through curtained pain
Flowing onto paper, with hopes of insights, growth to gain.
The power of the pen - so much mightier that* the sword
Is found within these message, that lyrics and poems can afford.

Lyrics that encourage One Day At A Time
And silent search within yourself, for the Hero you will find
For hidden strength and courage, to capacity to heal
Is found within the messages - that songs and poetry conceals

So listen very carefully. Take heed of the words being said
And apply them to your daily life
And the good and bad times ahead.

Take in soothing comfort
That these gifts of prose provide
For it`s through the Grace of God that these messages arrive.

* The copy that I am typing from says that, but I think it should be than, but do not want to change the text as it is written.

Step from the Middle

Step from the middle, and what do I see?
A person who desperately wants to be free
Of expectations high; identity questioned;
Possibly die
From struggling, from fighting; at what price the cost?
To fragile heart, mind or soul to be lost.

Where do I turn to, and what can I lose?
If I stand up for me and freedom I choose.
I¨m damned if I do; yet damned if I don¨t
Hold together a family who can¨t or just won¨t
Understand all the fear, the anger and pain
Of being pulled back into the middle again.

Is there a way I could just step aside,
And leave the solutions on others to ride?
Or is it time to claim what is mine
To search deep inside me, and triumphantly find
The person once me; full of high hopes and dreams
That forever were lost in the middle, it seems.

Deep down in the depths of my heart do I see
A glimpse of a woman, courageous and free
Whose first step to freedom; as difficult may be
Is to step from the middle, and declare,
Look at me.
This is my life; I own it, why can¨t you see?
That it¨s time that I live it; and I live it for me.

The Mystery

People, please listen, and hear what I say
For although there are barriers that hinder the way
There is a solution to the plight that you feel
An answer to the anger, the pain, and the fear

For I was once lost in the depth of despair
With no one to turn to, and no one to care
Filled with pain, humiliation and shame
Isolated, confused, frightened - insane
Caught in a web of self-doubt and deceit
Fooling myself with expectations to meet
Nurturing, caring, fulfilling each need
Of everyone, anyone, but least of all, me

Into oblivion - a way to escape
The bottle,-the answer-oh what a mistake
Further and further to hell I did slide
Until only a ghost of myself did survive

Now, what happened next is a mystery, unsolved to this day
For something or someone silently showed me the way
A way to be free from the shackles of drink
To be able to feel; to be able to think

And gave me a guideline-so simple, so true
Of honesty, openness, and willingness to
Look into yourself and accept what you see
A genuine HERO just waiting to be free

So just open your heart, your mind, and your soul
To a life of sobriety, to shape and to mould
Fore there by the grace of God, you will find
Acceptance, Serenity, and true Peach of Mind.

I was fortunate to be given some of her work in early recovery. I have more, and I think some of them are already posted, but always going back to affirm that I am on track.

More on giving and receiving. Look at your body language. Are you arms and legs crossed? Where is your mind when someone else is sharing?
