E is for Each. Each day is a new beginning. Each day I get to experience my feelings, handle situations, and deal on life's terms as they arrive without having to pick up that first drink.

E is for "Easy does it...but do it!" They say it is a simple program for people who like to complicate it. There is no race to be run, so easy does it. You deal with your issues, one day at a time, so easy does it, you didn't get this way overnight, so everything isn't made right away. Recovery is a process, it is finding a program that works for you. I can be sober, but if I want sobriety (soundness of mind), I have to continue working on my emotions, my spiritual condition, and all aspect of my dis-ease. The drugs I used were but a symptom of my disease. The problem was me, so if I don't continue to work the program and apply it to all areas of my life, I set myself to slip (sobriety loses it priority). When I surrender to the program, I am empowered to do what I need to do, one day at a time.

E is for Expectations. I often expect myself to do everything right, but that is being a perfectionist. I needed to lower my expectations so they were attainable and not out of reach. When I don't meet my expectations, I tend to beat myself up; so I had to find a level of acceptance of my limitations and capabilities.

E is for Enlightenment. This is a spiritual program. As we stay clean and sober, and turn our day over to the God of our understanding, enlightenment comes if we are open to receive. The light bulb with go on and you will have a new outlook on life. When I surrender to my Higher Power, He enlightens me and empowers me to show me how to stay clean and sober in today.

E is for Each day is a new beginning. It is my favorite slogan. I like to follow it with, so have a good one, because thanks to the program, I do have freedom of choice. Each day I can choose how I will live that day. When I put my life into my God's Care, I know that I may have bad moments in a day, but I don't have to carry them through out the day, I can let them go, and ask myself, "How Important Is It?" Most times, it doesn't matter enough to spoil my day.

E is for Emotions. They can be very tiring. I need to become aware of them. Some are deep rooted and I have to go to the Source to get a true honest look at them. Some are so old, they have been blown all out of proportion and we have given them too much importance in today. This is a one day at a time program. We need to let go of our past and do what we need to do to let them go and not bring them, into today.

E is for Everything. What do you need to change when you come to recovery? I was told everything. What brought me to the doors of recovery will take me back out if I don't deal with it.

E is for Emotions. We need to feel them in order to let them go. It can be painful working through them, but we are much enriched by having dealt with them.

E is for Ears

At AA meetings I can learn a lot by closing my mouth and opening my Ears. With open ears, I also need to have an open mind and heart. By listening to others experiences, strength, and hope, I can learn to live a life of sobriety.

E is for Errors

E is for Endings. We have new beginnings, but in recovery, we get happy endings too. They all aren't, everything isn't always lined with silver, just seems that way because we are clean and sober. It give you a new perspective on things and they don't always look so full of doom and gloom.

E is for Eclectic. I was told you should never use a word that you can't spell. I was pleased that no red line showed up under the word, but I do have to admit to having to look up the correct meaning. I thought I knew what it was, so I wanted to see if I was right. It was more right than I thought it was. I was grasping at straws trying to come up with a new word. It fit better than I thought it would.

E is for Endless. The gifts of recovery are endless. As you work the Steps, you will not only receive personal gifts, but gifts that you can pass on to others. The gifts are priceless and never ending in the beauty, love, and value.

E is for Elevate. Elevate your way of thinking. Don`t think of the worst case scenario, what we put out we attract. Picture goodness and light in your life. Don`t be Mr. Doom and Gloom or Ms. Prissy Miss, have some faith that things will work out when we remember to take our God with us on our daily journey, wherever it takes us.

E is for Exchange. Go to a meeting. Share with others. We can only keep what we have by giving it away. Life is about an exchange of energy. If you are always taking and not giving, you will find that your life isn't balanced.

E is for Eloquent. You don't have to be eloquent in your speech. What is important, is speaking from the heart. Sometimes we have to talk from our head, because that is where we are at. The longest journey is from the head to the heart. When you come from the heart it is eloquent, because it is you.

E is for Each. We each have to find our own program. We each need to find what works for us. We go to meetings and listen to others share. We can hear what works for them. We can take what we need, and as a friend says, "Take what you don't need and put it on your shelf, just in case you run into someone who does need it, and then you can pass it on. Each day is a new beginning. We just might need to trade off what we thought we needed for a newer model or completely delete it and find something to replace it.

E is for Eager. Are we eager to get up in the morning and start a new day clean and sober. Am I excited about living this new day, a second chance at life. If you are not enjoying recovery, what are you doing wrong?
