G is for Gratitude. I have decided to have a gratitude meeting instead of a speaker for my anniversary. That makes it a sharing meeting, and reaching 25 years is a miracle. I didn't think I was going to live to be 40, I found recovery at 49, and here I am, just turned 74. I have a lot to be grateful for.

G is for Get

Get plenty of restful sleep.

G is for Gossip. Don't do it. If you haven't heard it from the horse's mouth, don't repeat it. Either wise it is hearsay, and best not paid forward. Like me hearing that my friend had died, only to walk into a meeting and seeing him sitting there ready to chair the meeting. Not good!!!

What goes around, comes around. It generally bites you in the a$$ too!

G is for Growth. I need to grow in my recovery and not allow things to go stagnate. By continuing to work the steps and applying them to my life, I can change into the person my God would have me be in today.

Sobriety is a gift. I am forever grateful.

G is for Grace. As the slogan says, "...but for the Grace of God." Without my God's Grace I would not have found the doors of recovery. It says in the Bible, "His Grace is sufficient for you." Without it, I would have died many times over.

G is for ...But for the Grace of God. If it wasn't for that Grace, I know I would be dead. I have been given as second chance at life, so it is up to me to remember that God is good, Good is God. I try to make my day the best it can be and give thanks for His Blessings.

Get off the "Pity Pot"...the only thing you'll get is a ring around your bottom if you don't.

G is for Give. Give over to God. Give to others, share your experience, strength, and hope. You don't have to give money, it can be a loan of an ear, a shoulder to cry on or just be there for someone, you don't have to fill up the silence with words.

This AA slogan reminds me of Step 2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

G is for Grim. We don't have to be sad and grim in recovery. Happiness comes from within. Instead of looking around you for more, be grateful for what you have and give thanks. Tradition 4 says to not take ourselves so seriously. If you aren't enjoyin recovery, ask yourself, "What am I doing wrong?" We don't need a lot of long grim faces, we need smiles and grins. Remember it is attraction, rather than promotion.

Be will to give each other a helping hand.

G is for Go. If you aren't feeling well, go to a meeting. If you are feeling well, go to a meeting and pass the bless on. When your emotions are all up and down, go to a meeting, chances are you will hear what you need to hear for yourself. Go to a meeting to share with others, but most of all go to a meeting and listen to learn, and learn to listen.

G is for Glory. Glory be to God and all His wonderful blessing and gifts bestowed on us. Give thanks and praise Him for His Love and Care.

Just like gardening, In order for us to grow in our sobriety journey, we need to fertilize, water, and weed ourselves. We need sunshine and we need a little rain some times

G is for the God of our understanding. Even if we have no understanding of our God, it is up to us to build a working relationship with Him and get to know Him.

What does He want for your life? What plans does He have for you? Do you talk to him every day or just when you are in trouble?

Do you pray and ask for some Good Orderly Direction?

My God is as He reveals Himself in today.

G is for Get Happy. Get Happy, if your aren't Happy, YOU are not doing your job. I am responsible for my own happiness, go get busy and put a little Happy into your life.

G is for Get Busy. Remember "Easy does it, but do it!" It is important to go to meetings. It is important that you call your sponsor and run things by him/her. It is important to do Step work. There is no race to be run, but it important to apply them to your life along with the spiritual principles of each Step. It is important that you have a little talk with your God. You may be surprised, He might want to talk to you even if you don't feel up to hearing what He/She has to say.

G is for be gentle with yourself. Give yourself some tender loving care. Remember this is a we program, and we don't have to do it alone.

G is for Go. As the song says, go tell it on the mountain, over the hill and every where. Let alcoholics and addicts know that there is a solution. Give them the message of hop, you don't have to use in today.

G is for Got a minute. Got a minute, take time for someone else. Even if it is a quick smile, a kind word, or an offer of a hand. Remember that we are only half a hand shake.
Got a minute to listen to someone who needs to talk. You will feel the better for it.

G is for Give. Give to others, but first give to yourself. Giving away fumes doesn't count, they amount to a lot of hot air. Remember to give to your body, mind, and spirit to become whole.
