H is for H.O.W. It means how the program works, "Honesty, Open Mindedness, and Willingness. I also thing that the spiritual principles for Step One is Honest, Surrender, and Acceptance.

Unless I can get honest with me, open my mind to other ideas and concepts other than my own (my best thinking got me to the doors of recovery), and willing to go to any length, not to have that first drink in today and willing to do what ever it takes to maintain my sobriety.

One alcoholic/addict talking and sharing with each other is how the program works for me.

H is for Happiness. If you aren`t enjoying recovery, what are you doing wrong. Happiness comes from with. True happiness can be fleeting and false if we look for it elsewhere.

H is for Honesty. If I can't be honest with ourselves, how can we be truly honest with others. We can live in a world of illusion and denial can keep us from the reality of where we truly are at in our life, whether we are in recovery or not.

Self-honesty includes cash register honesty, and when we speak our truth, we may not see things as other people see it. Our truth can be our own denial.

A Hug For You

http://angelwinks.ca/images/iq/qcbearshugging5.jpg

I've got a hug
Meant just for You
Warm and cuddly
Maybe even two.

And with this card
You will hear me say
"I hope things are fine
And to have a great day!"

My hug sends love
And best wishes, too,
I'll always have more
Just waiting for You!

H is for Honesty. It still is the best policy. It is a principle that is need to work most of the Steps. You can't change what you are not aware of or willing to admit to.

H is for Hope. The 12 Promises of AA gave me hope. They are why I kept coming back. They said I would find a new freedom and a new happiness. They also said I would be amazed before I was half way through the Steps.

I found that they told the honest to God truth. The Steps lead me to that new freedom and happiness.

H is for Honesty

Honesty, rigorous honesty, and consistency are key factors in recovery. Take a look at Chapter 5 of the Big Book starting on page 58.

H is for HOW. How the program works. We get rigorously honest with outselves, we admit to our disease and ask for help. We open our mind to new things and allow others to be right. We need to be willing to go to any length to maintain our sobriety. That is why it is important to implement the 10th Step early into your recovery. It is a maintenance step and helps us in today.

H is for How to work the program. The program is not a quick fix, it i a process. It is looking at our character defect and getting honest about our shortcomings. Making amends unless it would hurt others or ourself. We don't make an amend just to make ourselves feel better.

How can we know what to change in our life if we don't take an inventory to see what is there?

H is for Hump Days. Not just the fact that it might be a Wednesay, but my God is there to get me over the humps in my recovery road. He gives me a boost up or tells me to take a detour, which ever way I go, I need to stop and enjoy the scenery.

H is for "Hello!" When you see someone, especially someone who looks to be hurting, smile and say "Hello!" A smile and a kind word can travel far when it is passed on.

H is for Help

When you need help...ask! Pick up the phone a call someone. When someone come to you for help, lend a helping hand. We are all in this together. You are never alone.

H is for Heart. They say the longest journey we make in recovery is from our head to our heart. It takes a while to get there, and that is all right. When you get there, you will see it was well worth the journey. It speeds up the process, when you get out of Self and help someone else.

H is for Honesty. Honestly, my mind is a complete blank, so it is best I close up shop and leave things to a better day. As the saying goes, "Honesty is the best policy."

H is for Hope. I found that when I have hope for a better tomorrow, I make healthier decisions in today. I am where I am at as a result of decisions made. What goes around comes around, so I need to be mindful of what I put out, because I am sure it will come back to me, often full force, be it good or not so good.

Hope your day is a good one.

H is for Home. Let troubles go, build a solid foundation to build your program on. Go to meetings, get a sponsor (you are no longer alone), find a home group (a place you feel comfortable at), work the Steps and apply them to your life. There are also the Traditions. They are applicable to our home life, our job, and dealing with the public at large. The tools are there for you to pick up, one day at a time, it does get better.

H. is for H.A.L.T. It is okay to laugh with, but not at someone, unless it is yourself. When you are not feeling well remember: Am I hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired. This is applicable to all aspects of my dis-ease, be it physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Many people are court jesters who laugh and joke around to cover up their hurt and pain. Other eat to much and stuff their feelings.

H is for Help. I got all mixed up and thought I was in the ABCs. In a lot of pain and some days it is hard to think through the pain. That is when I have to pray and ask for help.

Handle what you can and leave the rest, don't overtax yourself. You can only accomplish so much in a given 24 hour period.

H is for Happy. I am responsible for my own happiness. Happiness comes from within.

I got asked in recovery, what makes you happy? I didn't know. When I think of it, it is kind of sad. I know in today, I like music, I like peace and quiet, and there is nothing like a good book, a page turner that doesn't want you to put the book down.

H is for His/Her Care. It is the God of your understanding. I often think of my God as a she, when I am in need of some tender loving care. He is my God who directs my path and I put my life into His Care.

Know that He/She Cares for you.

I is for Imagination. We will be amazed before we are half way through Step 9, we will uncover things that are beyond our imagination. The gifts from our God just keep on coming. You just don't know who our God will put in our path. I will never forget a Native Woman Elder, a pow wow, my sponsees although I don't sponsor anyone in today. Because of health issues, I feel like I can't always be there for them. Yet I give out my phone number, because I am always open to having them call me.

H is for Happen. Nothing happens in God's World by mistake. We often figure that our wire were crossed or we aren't seeing the whole picture, but when that happens, we need to stop and connect with our God. I was told that if I doubted myself, I was doubting my God.

H is for Hi! It is always nice when someone stops by just to say "Hi" and not have an alternative motive to come calling. It gives me the warm fuzzies, even when a stranger goes by when I am waiting for the bus or Dart's Transportation and they say "Good Morning." I remember how it feels, so I try to pass it forward.

H is for Honesty

We are told to be rigorously honest from the very start. Honesty and consistency are key factors in recovery. H.O.W. (Honest, Open, & Willing) is one of my favorite AA slogans.

H is for Here. Here we are in the hear and now. Staying in the moment, living one day at a time. We are here as a result of decisions made. If I make healthy decisions, I will have good here and now's in the future.
