Quote:
I want to know God, not my idea of God;
I want to know my neighbor, not my idea of my neighbor;
I want to know myself, not my idea of myself.
~ C.S. Lewis

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 ESV
But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen,
nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him"--
these things God has revealed to us through the
Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the
depths of God.

Prayer:
Father,
Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit Who helps
me to know You, my neighbor and my own self. Amen.

Quote:

We cannot live with bitterness because it will first
manifest itself in our spirit, then in our emotions,
and finally in our bodies. ~ Tom Drout

James 3:14
But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts,
glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Prayer:
Almighty God,
I turn to You to wash away all bitterness within me.
Cleanse me with Your grace, infill me with the love of
Christ and motivate me with Your Holy Spirit. In the
name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Quote:
The biblical story abounds with instances of people being torn loose
from their moorings, from a settled existence, and discovering that
God is present in the situation...these crises are times of judgement.
In fact, the word crisis in the Greek means precisely that. In other
words, transition times are times in which God calls our old ways of
living and looking at things into question, calls us to move beyond
them...these very same times can be times of blessing. Those who
do press on, who are willing to leave the old behind, experience God's
healing, redeeming, resurrecting power. ~ John and Adrienne Carr

2 Kings 8:1-2 NASB
Now Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life,
saying, "Arise and go with your household, and sojourn wherever you
can sojourn; for the LORD has called
for a famine, and it will even come on the land for seven
years." So the woman arose and did according to the word
of the man of God, and she went with her household and
sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.

Prayer:
My Lord,
Thank you for tearing me loose from my comfortable moorings so that
I question my old ways of living and looking at things. Sometimes it
takes an uncomfortable jolt to get my attention yet these are times
of blessing. Amen.

Quote:
Each of us can look back upon someone who made a great difference
in our lives, someone whose wisdom or simple acts of caring made an
impression on us. In all likelihood it was someone who sought no recognition
for their deed other than the joy of knowing that, by their hand, another's life
had been made better. ~ Stephen M. Wolf, American businessman
(submitted by Rev. Nancy}

Matthew 5:16
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Prayer:
Father,
It is in the simple acts that often the greatest deeds are accomplished.
Show me how to make a difference in someone else's life today. Amen.

Quote:
Lord, here in your precious Word I give myself, my husband, my children,
and all that I have or ever shall posses, all to you. I will follow your will,
even to China. Lord, open doors, and I will go and tell of your
great love. In time of need, supply for us; in time of sorrow, give us peace;
in times of joy, send someone to share. Help me to never murmur nor complain.
I love you Lord Jesus. ~ Tanna Collin {This note comes from a page in
Mrs. Collins' Bible that was found at the scene of the airline crash in Tibet in
which the entire family perished in 1994}

Isaiah 9:2
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light:
they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them
hath the light shined.

Quote:
When you become dependent upon other people
you become powerless.

Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may
discern what is the will of God, what is good and
acceptable and perfect.

Prayer:
O Lord,
When I become dependent on other people I loose
my own self. When I feel weak and unable to go forward
move me to depend on You. You are my strength and
my fortress, my strong tower. Amen.

Suffering colors life,
But we can choose the color.
{submitted by Rev. Nancy}

Psalm 55:22
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee:
He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Prayer:
Beloved Savior,
Even though I may suffer, I still have choices.
Today instead of choosing hopelessness, I choose
to be a victor. I will cast my burden upon You, knowing
that You will take it upon Yourself and make my
burden light. Amen.

Quote:
Tell me who you love and I will tell you who you are.
~ Max Lucado

John 21:17 AMP
(Jesus) said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me {with
a deep, instinctive, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend}? Peter
was grieved (was saddened and hurt) that He should ask him the third time,
Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know everything; You
know that I love You.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
Your Word says, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your might." May I love You first and
foremost above all else. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.

Quote:
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the
most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much
advice, solutions, cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch
our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent
with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an
hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing,
not healing and face us with the reality of our power-lessness, that is a
friend who cares. ~ Henri J. M. Nouwen

Galatians 6:2
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Prayer:
My Lord,
Show me how to be a friend who cares. Amen.

Quote:
If we will look back upon the past, many of us will find that the very
time our Heavenly Father has chosen to do the kindest things for
us, and given us the richest blessings, has been the time we were
strained and shut in on every side. God's jewels are often sent us
in rough packages... but within we find the very treasures of the
King's palace and the Bridegroom's love. ~ A. B. Simpson

Psalm 104:27-28
These wait all upon thee;
that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
That thou givest them they gather:
thou openest thine hand,
they are filled with good.

Prayer:
Dear Father,
When life becomes challenging and strained, help me to understand
that there are hidden jewels that will be revealed to me. In the name
of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Quote:
God delights to increase the faith of His. We ought,
instead of wanting no trials before victory, no exercise for
patience, to be willing to take them from God's hand as a
means. Trials, obstacles, difficulties, and sometimes defeats,
are the very food of faith. ~ George Muller

Romans 5:3-5 NKJV
We glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh
patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has
been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Prayer:
My Lord,
When I feel overwhelmed by trials, help me to remember that
without defeat there is no victory and without obstacles there is no
overcoming. Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit who enables
me to persevere and become an overcomer. Amen.

Quote:
Although we have responsibilities to others, we are primarily accountable
to God. It is before him that we stand, and to him that one day we must
give an account. We should not therefore rate human opinion too highly,
becoming depressed when criticized and elated when flattered. ~ John R. W. Stott

Ezekiel 18:30
Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to
his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your
transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

Prayer:
Almighty God, It is to You Whom I have a responsibility. I am accountable to You for
every one of my thoughts, words and actions. Human opinion must never
lure me from obeying You and Your commandments. Keep me strong. In
the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Quote:
Be persuaded, timid soul, that He has loved you too much to cease
loving you. ~ Francois Fenelon

Jeremiah 31:13 NASB
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn
you with lovingkindness."

Prayer:
My Father,
Never let me underestimate or diminish how much You love me. Circumstances
may be difficult and life become challenging but Your love will see me through
everything. Thank you for loving me with an everlasting love. Amen.

Quote:
Those who cannot forgive others break the bridge over which they
themselves must pass. ~ Confucius, philosopher and teacher (551-478 BC)
{submitted by Rev. Nancy}

Luke 6:36-38
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not,
and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:
forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over,
shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete
withal it shall be measured to you again.

Prayer:
My Lord,
Grant me a heart of mercy and forgiveness. Make me kind and tenderhearted
as You renew a right spirit within me. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
