Courage to Follow

COURAGE TO FOLLOW

As children, we may remember playing follow the leader. One person would do something and we would all follow along. It was a fun way to do crazy things and pass the time. As we got older, we may have found ourselves following the crowd. We followed along with things we didn’t always agree with but since everyone else did it, we did it as well. However, Jesus tells us to be His followers. It takes courage to follow Him and not the things of the world. It takes courage to follow Him and turn from our selfish ways. It take courage to follow Him even if it means suffering or being different than the rest.

Luke 9:23 “Then he said to the crowd, ‘If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.’” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we want to follow You. We want to be obedient to You. We know You have our best interest at heart. You created us and know everything about us. You only want what is good for us and when follow You, we will be honoring You, obeying You and glorify You. Help us today to have the courage to follow You when no one else will. Help us today to follow You and be the example You have called us to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

In order to follow Jesus, we must turn from our selfish ways.

In order to follow Jesus, we must take up our cross daily and follow Him.

In order to follow Jesus, we must know and be obedient to His word.

In order to follow Jesus, we must walk away from the things of the world and walk with Him.

In order to follow Jesus, we must realize we are His children and are called to do good even if it means suffering.

1 Peter 2:21 “For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.”
