Enlightenment

Through going to meetings and listening to others, I got to see and hear things that helped enlighten me, and helped me out of my denial.

I was enlightened when I heard that there were other opinions other than my own, and they were often right. They spoke their truth, and I learned to accept that and was able to find my own.

I was enlightened when I opened opened my mind and heart and could admit I didn't know. Such a shocking event, I thought I knew it all. My motto was: I am a leading authority on everything, just ask me." I was enlightened about the fact that my best thinking got me to the doors of recovery, so why not change it.

Humility means to remain teachable. It doesn't mean teach people to do it your way, it is my disease talking when I think I am in the know. Enlightenment is not knowing, continuing in today, to see what my God offers to me.

Enlightenment is knowing that I am powerless over people, places and things, and it only comes when I accept, surrender to the program and to the God of my understanding, that I empowered to do what I need to do in today to stay clean and sober.
