Topic of the week, words that begin with the letter "V"

V is for Victory. We have victory over our disease, as long as we don't pick up and develop a spiritual defence against that first thought of picking up a drug, whether it is our drug of choice or not.

V is for Variety. There are a variety of meetings to go to. There are speaker meetings, topic discussion meetings. 12 & 12 discussion meetings. Big Book duscussion meetings. Ask It Basket meetings, and I am sure you may know a few more.

The common denominator between eacch fellowship and each meeting, is the 12 Steps. A few words may be changed here and there, the drug of choice may be different, but we always need to remember, that although the types of drugs may vary, the substance is but a symptom of my disease. The problem is very much me.

This is how I felt. This is what I was told. I just has to remember that I was a child of my God and deserving of recovery. I wasn't bad trying to get good. I was sick trying to heal and get better.

V is for Victory

V is for Vessel. I want to be clean and sober so I can be a vessel to carry a clean and sober message to others. That is why I quit smoking. I didn't want to quit. I had to find a spiritual reason before I could find true williingness to quit.

V is for Voice

You have a voice. In a meeting use your voice...share with the group. What you have to say is important. By sharing you may be helping a fellow alcoholic in his/her recovery. Also, don't forget to use your voice to ask questions. That is one way that we learn.

V is for Vital. It is vital over the holidays to keep yourself safe, if you want to stay clean and sober. That voice in your head can tell you that this time will be different. Play the tape to the end. Look at where your addiction took you.

V is for Visual. Remember that this is a program of reflection. What we see in others, we have within ourselves. It takes one to know one as they say. I know that over the years I have found myself thinking, "Gee, did I look and smell like that."

I also need to have a visual picture of what I want in my life and the direction I am going. I can't base my todays on my yesterdays.

V is for Virtual. Living in reality, living in the moment, living in today.

V is for Vital

It is vital to be Honest, Open, and Willing.

V is for Visual. Visualize what you want to do with your life and where you would like to go. What we put out comes back to us, Sometimes we have to be careful of what we ask for, we just might get it. Visualize the goodness entering your body (God supplies our needs) and the not so good leave as we let go and let God.

V is for Victory. Victory over my dis-ease one day at a time. My disease of addiction can be arrested in the 24 hours.

V is for Victuals. I must remember that I need food for the body, mind, and spirit. Food is vital for my growth and well being. Not eating is more harmful that not eating enough.

V is for Volunteer. Service is a big part of recovery. Volunteer for service positions at your group. Volunteer in your community. If you can't work on a regular job, volunteering helps you to get out of self and help others, in what ever capacity you can. We all have different gifts. Remember you are only half a hand shake.

V is for Voice. We all have a voice and we have a right to express ourselves. It isn't so much what we say, but how we say it. As the Mary Poppin song says, "A little bit of sugar helps make the medicine go down.

V is for Very. I am very, very sure, that the program works. It worked for me. You just have to be willing to work for it. I am very sure it can't be gotten by osmosis. But you can show up, bring the body and the mind will follow if you stay long enough for the miracle to happen.

It is my morning. I had to restart my day.
