Knowledge About Temptations

KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TEMPTATIONS

We are all tempted. Even Jesus was. When we give into temptations, we blame others or even blame the devil; however, giving into temptations is our choice. No one else’s. Jesus resisted temptations with God’s word. When He was alone and hungry and tired, the devil tempted Him to do wrong. Jesus used God’s word to be strong rather than choosing to do wrong. We have that same ability in us. When we better understand temptation and where it comes from, we will know how to better resist it.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 10:13 “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. List what worldly desires you have.
2. Write down temptations you face.
3. Get into God’s word and learn how to resist temptation.
4. Pray asking God to prepare your hearts and minds to better follow Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know the temptations we face in life are no different than the temptations Jesus faced. We see the example in Matthew 4 of how Jesus resisted Satan and chose to obey You. We see how He used Your word to resist temptations. Help us to prepare our minds and hearts with Your word so we gain more knowledge about temptations and how to resist them. Help us to stay focused on You and Your word so we can better live for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God will show us a way out when we are tempted but we have to put our eyes on Him and turn away from what is tempting us.

When we are tempted we can call on the name of Jesus and rebuke the devil and he will flee from us.

When we desire to read God’s word rather than partake in the things of the world, we are better prepared when the next temptations come.

James 4:7 “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (NLT)

Our human desires of the world cause us to be tempted by the devil. We can choose to rebuke the devil and follow Jesus.

FOCUS:
James 1:14 “Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.” (NLT)

The things of the world seem great until we get snarled up in them and trapped because of our own desires.
