Default Blessing

God's Word For Today

Blessing

Read Numbers 6:1 through 8:26; Matthew 28:1–20

John kissed his son, tucked him into bed, and said, “Good night, and God bless you, Peter.”

Years later when Peter visited his frail father in the nursing home, he bent to kiss him and said, “God bless you Dad. You have been a blessing to me and my children.”

John opened his eyes, reached for his son’s hand, and whispered, “Remember, God keeps His promises, Peter. You and your children are God’s blessing to me.”

Peter stroked his dad’s hand and prayed the blessing the Lord gave Moses for the Israelites as they journeyed to the Promised Land.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24–26).

When you ask God to bless you or to bless others, you are asking Him to impart His favor, protection, and peace. Blessings prayed for others have a way of returning to bless us.

Challenge for Today: Ask God to bless someone else.

Quicklook: Numbers: 6:22–27
