Default Working Together

Working Together

Matthew 11:1 - “After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach.”

Some of us are overworked and exhausted because we neglect to train others to help us with our jobs or ministries. Perhaps we think we can manage on our own. However, many times we become so busy and stressed out that we no longer have time or patience to teach others. Instead of enlisting the help and support of competent people, we beg God for strength to carry on alone.

While God does impart power, strength, and stamina when we need it, he also expects us to follow his plan and work together to alleviate stress. This is a new idea for us who have tried to do everything just right without imposing on others. We may be conditioned to believe it is selfish and lazy to enlist the assistance of others.

During his earthly ministry, Jesus engaged the help and support of twelve men. He could not be at each synagogue meeting, visit every sick person, comfort all the bereaved or even convince every person to follow him. He sent out his disciples to increase his ministry and prevent complete burnout. We, too, need that kind of wisdom.

Lord, I am not omnipresent or omniscient.

Help me to learn to ask for assistance when I need it.

Train me to train others.

Joan C. Webb
