Like this, one of the reasons we are asked to "Breathe!" Letting go of the old to make room for the new.

Thanks for sharing Dave.

Like this, I think I posted it in the Steps and Tradition section. The 12 Steps are a tool for all things when applied.

This is a spiritual program, without that awareness, I don't think we heal, if we don't find it, it is like putting on a band aid and forgetting to heal from the inside out instead of the outside in.

Letting go of the bondage of addiction to find the freedom from active addiction through the 12 Steps.

Write Me A Mountain
~*Marge Tindal*~

Write me a mountain that I’ve yet to climb
Ink me poetic lift to far-reaching sublime
Leave poetic footprints so it may be known
As I follow word-crumbs that you’ve strewn

Don a brook in the roiling bubble of rhyme
Bridged ‘cross the crossable chasm of time
Cascade the liquid-words in sparkling fall
Down mountain reaching foothills in sprawl

Ink not a turn unless refreshing the scene
Moccasin movement on trails hidden between
Indian past and the present, rhymed recall
A time when Spirit of Mountain knew it all

Write me a mountain that I’ve yet to climb
Ink me poetic lift to far-reaching sublime
Leave poetic footprints so it may be known
As I follow word-crumbs that you’ve strewn

This reminds me that I need to carry the message to those who come behind me. Someone took the time to share with me along my recovery road.

We never know when I word may be picked up that will help someone else along their recovery road.

Sometimes we write our own mountain. We take something small and make it into a mole hill, which in turn, can become a mountain that seem unsurpassable. We can do what I can't do alone.

The first step to freedom; A difficult task
Can only be taken if you lower the masks
That hide all the shame, the pain, and the fears
Held deep down inside you for so many years.

Do you think that you're ready to take that first step?
The first step to freedom; to life at its best
It may seem so easy, so simple a test
To let go of deception; to let go of the rest.

Step One - to admit, to surrender, to dare
To face who you are and openly share
The person within with all those who care
Family and friends; the support that is there.

Honesty, hard work and prayer will prevail
In achieving a victory clean
Over denial and self pity, anger and fear
If openness, willingness and acceptance appear.

So hold out your hand and patiently wait
For the moment you enter into God's loving gate
One step at a time, for it is never too late
To walk into freedom; to determine your fate.

Once this step has been taken, and freedom you find
Hold tightly the promise of a life so divine
Not a life of perfection, please keep this in mind
But a life through good choices,
Has gained peace of mind.

Quotations for Motivation, Inspiration or Contemplation

Submitted by Lauren Covington

Thought Of The Day
"Be thankful for the sound of birds chirping in the morning, it means that you are alive."
Written in 2014 by Betty Oliver --- Barbados

Thoughts Of The Day
"Seize the present opportunity; work with dedication and sincerity and enjoy it; this is the best present / the best reward that we can give to ourselves."
Written in 2014 by CV Varghese --- India

Expecting external rewards often lead to losing focus and affecting the output whereas, self-recognition of having a job well done is the best reward.

Thoughts For The Day
"Know yourself, deal with your problems, work on your weaknesses before you compete with others."
Written in 2014 by Albert Douglas Quayson ---Ghana
This is to encourage everyone to take his/her time and not to rush in life because life entails more than what we see in movies.

"Don't buy friends because after your money is finished they will end up being your enemy for free. Invest in real estate instead."
Michael Smith --- St Kitts

So many times we forget that what we put out comes back to us. It seldom is from the same source. Some people are just not capable of meeting your expectation. Lower your expectation and you will find more acceptance.

Benjamin Franklin kept a special note of his daily faults, and worked on a different virtue each week. He use this prayer daily.

O powerful Goodness! bountiful Father! merciful Guide! Increase in me that wisdom which discovers my truest interest. Strengthen my resolutions to perform what that wisdom dictates. Accept my kind offices to Thy other children as the only return in my power for Thy continual favours to me.

- Celia Haddon

Default God's Rainbow

~ God's Rainbow ~

The falling rain dissolves into mist
And the thunder begins to die;
As the sporadic lightning fades,
An arch of colors pours from the sky.

Rainbows appear after mighty storms
When things look their worst;
Just when the skies are darkest gray,
Out of heaven does the rainbow burst.

God first sent the rainbow to Noah
As a sign that His word is true;
The rainbow's eternal message
Still speaks to me and you.

The rainbow is a sign of God's promise
That He will guide us through any storm;
That He will ease all our troubles
No matter what their form.

When you feel battered by life's storms
And you are filled with doubt and dismay,
Just remember God's rainbow is coming
For it's blessing ... you only have to pray.

This is on the site, and If found this on another site where I posted it in 2009.

Quote:

THE LITTLE BLACK BUG

The little black bug climbed up into the tree
Why? Oh why did it have to be little old me?
All I did was climb up to see the world better;
But what should I see, but the leaves turned under
Now it means it's going to rain and pore.
The weather will change and there'll be thunder,
And with my luck, I'll be washed away
To some far distant shore I've never been
And IF I should be so lucky, I'll find a new place to explore.
That is, IF I don't get drowned, if that branch doesn't give way.
Or IF some fat froggy doesn't get hungry for bug souffle.
I may end up in buggy heaven and meet that chick
I met last week at the country store
who clicked her heels, and turned up her nose,
And got ate by the bug next door.
I can see the long legs yet,
Oh goodie! Oh goodie! Oh goodie!

This was the first poem I wrote in recovery sixteen years ago. It is so negative, and portrays a perfect picture of my attitude back then. Always expecting the worst, full of doom and gloom. If you live in the negative, you draw it to you.

I am so grateful that I don't have to go there anymore. I have heard several people say, "If you look at the worst scenario, then whatever happens, you will be prepared and then you can be grateful that it wasn't as bad as you expected it to be! Sorry, this is putting the cart before the horse for me. I am what I feed my soul, and if I feed myself negative, then that is what I will get in return. No Thanks! That isn't recovery to me, that is living and acting out old behaviors and patterns.
I wrote 16 years ago and that was 5 years ago, so I wrote it when I was 2 years sober.

Leadership ... the ability to see what no one else sees, to listen when others talk and the ability to be optimistic when others are pessimistic.

-- George W. Cummings

The greatest gift you can give another is the purity of your attention.

-- Richard Moss

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again. Then quit. There's no use in being a d**n fool about it.

-- W.C. Fields

Broken Dreams

As children bring their broken toys
With tears for us to mend,
I brought my broken dreams to God
Because He was my friend.
But then instead of leaving Him
In peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help
With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,
"How could you be so slow"
"My child," He said, "What could I do?
You never did let go."
