More to improve and fewer to disapprove
More doers and fewer talkers
More to say it can be done and fewer to say it's impossible
More to inspire others and fewer to throw cold water on them
More to get into the thick of things and fewer to sit on the side lines.
More to point out what's right and fewer to show what's wrong
More to light a candle and fewer the curse the darkness.

Want is a bitter and a hateful good,
Because its virtues are not understood;
Yet many things, impossible to thought,
Have been by need to full perfection brought.
The daring of the soul proceeds from thence,
Sharpness of wit, and active diligence;
Prudence at once, and fortitude is given;
And, if in patience taken, mends our lives.

These lines by John Dryden look at first rather grim. Yet in my life disappointments have turned out to be blessings in disguise. Often what I want is not at all the same as what I need.

Celia Haddon - The Yearbook of Love and Wisdom

Sorry if a lot of these are duplicates, with the volume of posts I make it is difficult to remember, plus I am having memory issues.

Life isn't all about recovery, it is about finding balance. It is about finding healthy things to do to replace the old habits and ways of living that not safe for you in today.

I joined a bridge club. I came across an advertisement and programmed the phone number into my phone. I had learned with my ex-husband and we had been separated for many years, so it was a big step for me to go to a new place alone, to see if I could even place, because we played according to his rules. I tried line dancing and found it wasn't for me, but a lot of my friend's enjoyed it. I enjoyed other dancing, I found that I could dance sober, something I didn't think I could do. I had to recognize that life went on without alcohol and drugs.

There is a natural high to life and life can be beautiful. I could feel my feelings and really enjoy and experience it instead of fearing it. I could drop the paranoia and let myself be me and who I was in today was okay, always remembering, everything is subject to change and growth.

Burned Biscuits

When I was a little girl, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then and I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Baby, I love burned biscuits."

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired . . . besides - a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!"

You know, life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. I'm not the best housekeeper or cook. What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn't a deal-breaker! We could extend this to any relationship in fact - as understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!

"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket - keep it in your own."

"Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do and you've done it." (Margaret Thatcher

The wisdom of Larry the cable guy......

1. A day without sunshine is like night.

2. On the other hand, you have different fingers.

3. 42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

4. 99 percent of lawyers give the rest a bad name.

5. Remember, half the people you know are below average.

6. He who laughs last, thinks slowest.

7. Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm.

8. The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets
the cheese in the trap.

9. Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have.

10. A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.

11. Change is inevitable, except from vending machines.

12. If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of
payments.

13. OK, so what's the speed of dark?

14.. When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong
lane.

15. Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.

16. How much deeper would the ocean be without sponges?

17. Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet
engines.

20. What happens if you get scared half to death, twice?

21. Why do psychics have to ask you your name?

22. Inside every older person is a younger person wondering,
'What the heck happened?'

23. Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would all
fall off.

24. Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people
appear bright until you hear them speak.

25. Life isn't like a box of chocolates. It's more like a jar
of Jalapenos. What you do today, might burn your butt tomorrow.

Four things you can't recover:

The stone........after the throw.

The word.........after it's said.

The occasion........after it's missed.

The time..........after it's gone.

For You, My Friend

Hey there, my friend
Have I told you today
Just how really great you are
In each and every way.

We've been friends for awhile now
Through good times and the bad
You always listen and give me a hug
And even help me when I'm sad.

I hope that you know
That I'm always here for you, too
You really are the very best
And there's nothing for you I wouldn't do!

Friendship Forever

We're joined in a friendship,
that time cannot sever
with bonds we have built,
we'll remain friends forever.

We're welded in spirit
attached by our hearts,
and fused by the feelings
that friendship imparts.

We're tied by emotions
connected by dreams
reinforced by our hopes
unified by extremes.

No longer a function
of time or of space
our love is a substance
that life won't replace.

No matter how distant
we'll always endeavor
to sense the full meaning of
~Friendship Forever~

Living In Want

"I WANT to be happy," is an often repeated phrase.

People who say it, get exactly what they're asking for.
They live in the 'want' of happiness.

Wanting a million dollars won't put money in your bank account.
Wanting a Porsche won't turn your Neon into a lean mean driving machine.
Wanting to be a bird won't give you wings or get you off the ground.
The more you 'want' those things, the more 'want' you get.
It comes in extraordinary amounts and becomes a physical ache,
when you want something 'really bad'.

Instead of curling yourself into a tight little ball
and remaining clutched in the 'want' of happiness,
open yourself up to the opportunity of receiving it.

Fill the holes in your life with the joy of being alive.
Work at happiness from the inside out.
Remove the weight of 'want' off your heavily burdened shoulders
and make yourself available to bliss.

When you achieve inner happiness, it shows.
It seeps from your eyes and rolls off your words.
Your peace of heart, supported by a solid foundation, is unflappable.
You see external happiness for what it really is,
a precarious source of self fulfillment.
Your 'want' is gone, and without it,
you stand in the wake of grand possibilities.

Your eyes see the positive in what you have,
instead of the negative in what you lack.
Happiness starts coming at you from a multitude of directions.

Live in the 'want' of being happy, or 'be' happy.

The choice is completely up to you.

-Terri McPherson-

One way to become enthusiastic is to look for the plus sign. To make progress in any difficult situation, you have to start with what's right about it and build on that.

Give Your Best

If we still get angry at others, still need others' company, or still need others to comply with our moodiness and opinions, then we are still within our own egos, because our egos make us feel separated from others.

We never know when the retribution of our negative karma will come back to us. It always descends upon us suddenly, and when it is least expected. Therefore, we must take good care of our actions, speech and
thoughts at all times, and remember to connect with the Almighty Power within in order to raise our level of consciousness. Then, when the negative karma comes, we will have enough wisdom and power to overcome it.

If we still do not have empathy with the suffering of others, or the capacity to feel the emotions of others, then we are still far from the Tao.

Working is the best time to test our patience and to exercise our bodies.

It's easier to forgive than to punish. It's easier because you don't have to think about it any more, and that person is happy and doesn't give you any more pressure.

When we are pushed into a situation, we realize our wisdom.

Gentleness always defeats toughness in this world; the more tender, formless or supple, the greater the power.

If we want to receive the wisdom or love of an Enlightened Master, we should not be too complicated; we must be single minded in order to receive.

Don't become a sulky Buddha; always be cheerful, be optimistic. If we force ourselves to be optimistic, eventually we will become optimistic. Who can force us other than ourselves? Unless we compel ourselves to
advance, no one else can help us.

"Instead of resisting any emotion, the best way to dispel it is to enter it fully, embrace it and see through your resistance."

-- Deepak Chopra
Finding the cause of our emotions, whether good or bad allows us time to think about them, where their roots are, then we can act accordingly.

We may try to escape our feeling by getting involve with other people, places, and things. We need to bring the focus back on ourselves in order to heal.
