Default Lying To Yourself?

Lying To Yourself?

Psalms 51:1-6: “Surely You desire truth in the inner parts” (v.6).

My husband and I had worked all day installing a financial program onto our home computer. Several hours earlier, when we thought we were finished, we discovered a large discrepancy in our checking account reconciliation. We followed the directions in the manual, but nothing worked. We were stumped, and tired.

As my husband walked out of the room, I scanned the screen for the umpteenth time. And then, I saw it! “Honey, come quickly,” I shouted. We had informed the computer that we owned $5000 more than we did. When we told the computer the truth, the checkbook balanced.

For years many of us have fed ourselves lies. We are perplexed and exhausted trying to understand why our lives don’t work. Maybe we need to take the time to identify the lies and replace them with the truth. Then we can start changing destructive behavior that is the consequence of believing those lies. The change will not take place as instantly as with a computer, but it will happen.

Lord, please help me locate where I have accepted lies about myself
and replace those lies with your truths.

Joan C. Webb
