Default Great Things Are Coming

God's Word For Today

Great Things Are Coming

Read 1 Samuel 11:14 through 13:15; Luke 8:9–25

Because there are only have twenty-four hours each day, people try to cram some type of activity into every waking minute. The lists are endless: attend a meeting, plan an event, drive the kids to a sports game, go shopping. People also might be ashamed to admit how many times they have raced through their devotional time to get to something else. But there is value in slowing down, catching a breath, and looking at life from an easier pace.

“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!” (1 Samuel 12:16).

The Israelites had just finished offering sacrifices and celebrating the crowning of King Saul when Samuel explained to them that God had answered their request for a king. Now it was time to “stand still” and watch as God did a great thing. That great thing was to affirm Samuel’s words that the people had done evil by asking for a king.

Taking time to be still before God makes it easier to hear Him when correction is needed.

Challenge for Today: Set aside time today to meditate on God’s love and grace.

Quicklook: 1 Samuel 12:13–18

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
