Get in the Fight

Read Numbers 32:1–42

The Israelites stood ready to begin the battle for the Promised Land. But the Gadites and the Reubenites elected to make their homes just outside the area of contention.

“But we will arm ourselves for battle and go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land” (Numbers 32:17).

The Gadites and Reubenites put their lives on the line in a battle that wouldn’t even affect them directly.

We are sometimes guilty of living our lives without thinking about the people on the other side of the tracks (or the border or the political aisle) whose fight is not our fight. Follow the example of Christ: show compassion to a fellow believer who struggles with temptations you’ve never experienced. Demonstrate incredible generosity to someone who can’t make ends meet. Make their fight your fight.

Challenge for Today: Reach out to someone who lives a radically different lifestyle from yours.
