Default We Are Not Alone

I have days when I just want to hide under my bed. Times when I just don’t want to be a grown up anymore. I’m sure many of you experience these feelings, but doesn’t it make you feel better to know that you’re not alone?

I think that God wants us to know that we do not exist on a deserted island on those days. He is always with us. If that is true….. (And I chose to believe it is), how can our lives be hit repeatedly with challenges and tragedy? I have read countless Bible verses that are supposed to explain why these things happen, but when it’s ME…the points seem mute. The Bible surely can’t be talking about me and my situation. It was written so long ago, and those were different times. Right?

One day while hiding under my bed (not really, but I might as well have been). A thought came to me, or was it the voice of my Father; if I didn’t experience these times, how would I recognize the times to rejoice and praise? It’s kind of like the summer days when it rains and rains, and then the sun appears. What a wonderful and happy feeling! But in order for us to recognize the beauty and the warmth of the sun, we have to experience the cool wet rain.

Does it seem like more happens to you than to your ever so cheerful neighbor? Perhaps that is the case, or perhaps your neighbor has realized that every day holds a positive thought. Sometimes you just have to look harder for it. In Romans 8:28 we read “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” The next time I want to hide (and I know I will experience it again), I will read the 10th Palm, verses 1-18. It speaks the words I need…will you?

“The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes and say ‘O God, forgive me’ or ‘Help me’ ” ~ Billy Graham

Good Morning Lord, We thank you for all the goodness that you provide, and when we experience those times of famine, please remind us that you are always with us – through the good and the bad, in times of plenty and times of sorrow and strife. Please wrap your arms around us and around those who are suffering and feeling so alone. We know that it is all in Your plan. Help us as we come out of those “hiding places” and face our worlds with our hand in Yours. Amen
