Recovery works for all who really try it. We are the only reason if it doesn't work. It's been designed for us, by people who are like us, and who want to show us how they got well. The only thing we must have is we have gotta want it, that's it. I told my sponsor I really wasn't sure I wanted it or was willing to put forth effort to get it. He said that I was selling myself short, that there was a whole wonderful way to live that I'd never get to know, and that he felt sorry for me. Then he said why don't you at least give yourself a chance to try it and that if I only used half the effort that I used to put into drinking, he was sure that would be enough.
